Rory L. Boyan, 27, of 28 Noel Drive, Ashburnham, is charged with possession of Ecstasy with the intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with the intent to distribute, possession of hashish, possession of LSD, unlicensed driving and speeding.

State Trooper Scott F. Driscoll stopped Mr. Boyan, who was behind the wheel of a brown Dodge Caravan that was traveling 70 mph in a 55 mph speed zone, at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 84 east in Sturbridge.

Mr. Boyan told police he was returning from a Phish concert in Portsmouth, Va., and had dropped a friend off in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., before returning to Massachusetts. He said he was a jewelry and crystal vendor who travels to music events to sell his merchandise. Trooper Driscoll smelled a “moderate odor” of marijuana coming from inside the van. A license and criminal history check revealed Mr. Boyan’s license had expired.

In addition to the jewelry, crystals, hats, T-shirts and food items found in his inventory, Trooper Driscoll found a metal tin containing a small amount of marijuana, two glassine bags with hashish, 19 purple pills (Xanax), a brown crystal substance (Ecstasy), 10 tabs of LSD, two digital scales, various plastic packaging materials, a glass pipe with marijuana residue and $2,000 worth of bills held together with elastics, the police report states.

The money was seized because Trooper Driscoll had probable cause to believe the currency was being used or was intended for use in the procurement, delivery or distribution of narcotics or was actually proceeds from the sale of narcotics, according to the police report.

Mr. Boyan was arraigned Wednesday in Dudley District Court, with bail set at $250. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 2.
